All The Worlds A Stage
I have just finished reading the article ‘All the Worlds a Stage’, about the usefulness of blogs within the classroom. This article has expanded my views on how these blogs could be used. I originally had the thought that it would be interesting to have a whole class blog, which we would share with a class from another country. Through this children could see similarities and differences in their lives and also in the education system.
Sarah Fallon however suggested that blogs could be used as a mentoring system, where older students would help younger students from another school with their English work. Teacher Anne Davis interestingly quotes ‘Having an outside audience really made a difference to them. They couldn’t believe that someone else would care about what they wrote’. Children are egocentric, they like things which they can relate to, the use of blogs allowed them to publish their work and share it with others.
This article also states the various precautions and safeguard which should be undertaken when children are using the Internet. There are numerous practicality’s which need to be considered when you are intending to set up a classroom or class member blog.
I believe that this article has extended my views on blogs in the classroom, they are a fun way to get children working and as Sarah states at the end of the article ‘It really can change what you do with your curriculum’.
